Beyond the Rim, Program Manager Position Description

Beyond the Rim is a community outreach program in partnership with the MLSE Foundation and supported by Centennial College's Athletic and Recreation department and Enactus Centennial. The program provides children with the opportunity to gain valuable life skills development, such as financial literacy, environmental and social skills awareness, along with intensive basketball skills training. Beyond the Rim runs for 20 weeks on Saturdays between the months of September and April.

We are currently looking for a dynamic individual to fill the role of Program Manager. The successful candidate will oversee, coordinate and administer all aspects of the Beyond the Rim program. Primary duties include, planning, organizing, staffing, leading and monitoring the program activities.


  • Supervise and assess program activities on a weekly basis, ensuring that the activities operate within policies and procedures of the organization. Weekly and monthly reports required
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of participant registrations and follows confidentiality/privacy policies of Centennial College
  • Continuous development of volunteer and coaches training manuals
  • Monitor approved budget and track expenses to ensure that program stays within budget
  • Develops a risk assessment program and checklist to ensure that environment is safe for all participants and staff
  • Update and track weekly attendance of participants and volunteers
  • Create weekly schedules for volunteers to ensure weekly coverage in all program areas
  • Trains staff and volunteers to work effectively and in collaboration together
  • Keeps track of volunteer hours and creates volunteer letters
  • Primary point of contact for parents, participants, volunteers and staff every Saturday from 8:30am to 12:30pm
  • Plan and implement a rewards program that recognizes volunteer and participant successes
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
  • Monitor and measure the program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework
  • Expected to work 15 – 20 hours / week


  • Three year degree and/or diploma in Business related program, Community studies or Project Management
  • Minimum three years' experience practical work in Community Services industry
  • Minimum three years' experience working with youth in the community
  • First Aid/CPR certified
  • Experience leading volunteers or a team
  • Basic knowledge of the game of basketball
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other databases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

This is a contract position from September 2017 to April 2017 with the possibility for renewal.                              Honorarium of $10,000
