Scarborough, ON – The Centennial College Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the signing of David Ta to become the new Head Coach of the Centennial Colts Men's Volleyball program.
Ta brings a wealth of experience to the position vacated by former Head Coach, Alain Arseneau. Ta is no stranger to coaching at the post-secondary level as he has connections at three prominent GTA schools. Ta coached at the University of Toronto where he learned under Jeff Chung from 2003-2005. This past season he was an assistant to Michael Wahbi at York University. Ta also credits long-time Humber College Coach Hank Ma as his coaching mentor.
Coach Ta has also had an active coaching career at the club level, working with a number of players that have graduated to the Team Ontario program. Most recently, Ta has coached the 17U REACH Smash boys team and the REACH Prime 16U girls program. Each of those squads is currently ranked in the Top 8 in Ontario. In addition to these two programs, Ta is also the Coaching Director at REACH. This summer, Ta will serve as the Head Coach of the OVA High-Performance Region 5 boys program.
"It is a great honour to be selected as the Head Coach of the Colts," says Ta. "I look forward to taking it to new heights."
David was selected out of a very strong pool of candidates and Manager of Athletics and Recreation, Darcy Brioux thinks that his new hire will make an immediate impact on this upstart program.
"David is a tremendously experienced volleyball coach and brings his extensive knowledge of the game as a former player, university and club coach to Centennial," says Brioux. "His skill set will immediately benefit our student-athletes and help develop the men's volleyball program for future success."
Ta will get his first taste of action this fall when he leads the Colts into the 2018-19 season. The men's volleyball schedule will be announced June 1, 2018.
