Colts Hire a New Badminton Coach In Jolyon Thompson

Scarborough, ON - Centennial College's Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jolyon Thompson as the new head coach of the Colts Badminton Program. Thompson takes over for former head coach Stephen Wong.

“We are pleased and excited to welcome Jolyon as the new head coach for the Badminton Program here at Centennial," said Manager of Athletics Darcy Brioux. "Jolyon is a tremendously experienced badminton specialist, as a player, official and coach, and will bring that unique perspective to our student athletes.”

Mr. Thompson is a NCCP level 2/3 coach with experience in the OUA at the University of Toronto, Port Hope Racquet Club, the Ontario Winter Games with the Central Ontario Badminton Association. Jolyon is also an international badminton official having served at the Canadian, Commonwealth, Pan Ams and World Badminton Championships. 

Jolyon is also an active player, having medalled at the World Senior and Master’s Games in 2013.

"I am excited to be joining the Colts team of coaches. With the terrific support of Darcy, Joan and Tina we will enable our Colts Varsity badminton players to compete to their full potential this season."

The Colts tryouts will take place in September, with their first meet at Humber on Oct. 14-15th. Centennial will be hosting an invitational on Jan. 14/17 with the East Regionals taking place on Feb. 3-4/17; Provincials on Feb. 17-18/17 and Nationals on Mar. 1-4/17.

We are looking forward to a very exciting season and wish the best to Jolyon and the student athletes with the Colts Badminton team.
