Colts Women's Basketball get their first win of the season, taking down the now 0-4 Durham Lords. This is also their first double-digit win, taking the game by 11, 58-47. Hopefully, with their first win under their belts, this will mark a change for the season as the Colts had a hard schedule to start, playing the top 4 teams in the East Division (George Brown, Loyalist, Seneca, and Georgian).
Leading the way for the Colts was 5th-year Mikayla Simon-Tucker, who notched her first double-double of the season, going for 19 points and 11 rebounds. Speaking with her after the game, she wasn't pleased that she missed the 20-point mark, acknowledging that her 9-14 free-throw shooting did her in from reaching the 20-point barrier. The Colts used their size to bully the undersized Lords as Kalyah Joseph Lynch had her best showing of the season with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Dealijandra Gomes also chipped in with 11.
By the Numbers
There was a turning point in the 3rd quarter as the Colts came out firing, outscoring the Lords 20-3. The Colts crushed the Lords on the offensive boards, leading to multiple second-chance opportunities, attributed to the Colts' size (19 to 5). The Lords stuck in the game due to their 3-point shooting, going 30% from behind the arc, with Taige Matosas-Adderley shooting 60%.
Up Next
The Colts will be in tough as they go up against the defending East Division champions, the Algonquin Wolves, on November 23.
