History

Alumnus, Rita Havel attended Agincourt Collegiate Institute in Scarborough before starting the hospitality program at Centennial’s Warden Woods Campus. Rita’s career in hospitality started with her placement at the Howard Johnson hotel and grew from there for more than two decades. Rita was a member of the Women’s Basketball team for two and a half years. She was a forward who had success with her shots from the corner. She fondly remembers her coach, Dorthy Bray, who was like a mother figure to her and the rest of the team. Coach Bray would host team socials at her home to bring the team together and keep them focused, all while having a good time! Under Coach Bray’s leadership, the team made the provincial championships, and Rita received the OCAA MVP during that championship run.  When asked what her words of advice would be, she shared what Coach Bray encouraged – to document goals, individual or team goals. Documenting what you do before each day and building upon it will help guide you professionally, personally and athletically.
