SCARBOROUGH – The Centennial Colts women's soccer team returns to the pitch tonight for their home opener against the Fleming Phoenix at Colts Sports Field. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
The Colts opened their season in style with a 10–0 win over the Loyalist Lancers. Even with the big win, the Colts weren't entirely satisfied. With five new players in the lineup, the team is still working on chemistry and rhythm. That's an encouraging thought for a program already ranked 3rd in Ontario and 10th in the country.
This season carries extra weight, with several key veterans set to graduate, including fifth-year captain Emily Cullen, a steady leader and defensive anchor. Centennial has yet to reach the OCAA Final Four, but with the experience and talent in this group, expectations are sky-high.
The firepower is clear. Mylie Decoff struck for a natural hat trick in the opener, while All-Canadian Vanessa Lima controlled the midfield with two goals and three assists. Rookie forward Alana Kendrick, the only first-year player on the roster, chipped in two goals in her debut, adding early promise to a squad already stacked with attacking options.
Their opponents tonight, the Fleming Phoenix, enter still searching for their first win after back-to-back losses. Facing a top-ranked Colts side on the road will be a tall task, but Centennial knows they can't afford to take anyone lightly as the season builds momentum.
With veteran leadership, fresh talent, and a chance to shine on home turf, the Colts are aiming to take another big step toward a long playoff run.
